Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Day 45, Monday, 3/16/09

     Sunrise 6:49 am / Sunset 6:48 pm

Puerto Vallarta is a Mexican resort city situated on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahia de Baneras.  It is the 5th-largest city in the state of Jalisco.  Puerto Vallarta is named after Ignacio Vallarta, a former governor of Jalisco.  In Spanish Puerto Vallarta is often shortened to “Vallarta, while English speakers call the city P.V. for short.  Puerto Vallarta was a thriving Mexican village long before it became an international tourist destination.  The oldest section of the town is the area of Col. Centro near the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe especially Hidalgo Street.  Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club is very near the dock.  You can see it from the ship just across the street.  Half the ship was there buying medication.

There were some birds (macaw?) on the pier.  I used the Internet just off the ship for $3 an hour.  I didn’t know there was one across the street for $1.  We then walked over to Wal-Mart and bought some z packs and cough drops.  We had lunch on the ship and then went to the booths near the pier and just looked around.  Everyone is selling the same thing.  I put pictures of Anna dancing on a thumb drive and loaned it to her so she could download them on her computer.  She is 21 years old and has been with Carnival 3 years.  The dish on the right was Ray’s appetizer, fruit in a pineapple boat.

The show tonight was the hilarious comedy of Merl Hobbs.  He made you laugh by telling the truth.  I started a new dish cloth.
