Day 32–Sun., Feb. 6, 2011–Auckland, NZ

  Auckland Bay

  Auckland from Crow's Nest

Today is Waitangi Day in NZ.  It is the day the treaty was signed with the Maoris.  Auckland is known as Queen City or City of Sails.  Auckland is the largest and most modern in NZ, located on the North Island.  Ray played golf today with Marcia and Diek and a local.  He had a wonderful day and almost had a hole in one.  He shot 92.  I played Wii bowling before I went off shopping. When I got down to the main street, I realized I left the camera on the ship.  I was not walking all the way back for it.  I browsed in many shops and had a good time.  I bought Edmonds Cook Book that Joan mentioned, some cough lozenges and a couple of shirts.  I did a lot of walking.  It was warm, but not too bad.  We both enjoyed Auckland.

Ray and I had a little lunch when he returned.  We checked out the dinner menu and didn’t care for it, so we made reservations for Canaletto for 4.  Willy and Christine joined us.  Canaletto is the Italian Restaurant in the back part of the Lido.  It worked out well, because they got back late from a tour.

The entertainment tonight was the Haka Legend Maori Folkloric Show at 9:30 pm.  I got some good videos.  They were from the museum.  The show featured chants, songs and dances of New Zealand’s native culture.
