Day 50–Thurs., Feb. 24, 2011–Cairns, Australia

Well, our luck has changed.  We woke to a rainy day.  It stopped for a short while, but poured at other times.  The ship provides clear umbrellas to use in town.  We did go to Wii so we waited a little until the rain let up.  We did bowling in teams.  We docked right at the end of town so it was an easy walk to the shops.  They have a Casino, but we didn’t check it out.  When we were here in 2007, we did the Kuranda tour with the train ride and gondola.  Because of the weather, the train was not running today.  We walked down Lake St. to Spence St, down to the Esplanade, up to Shields St. and back down Lake St. to the boat. The town seemed very quiet. IMG_3604IMG_3606 IMG_3607 IMG_3609 IMG_3610

We stopped in a few shops and then went to the supermarket to spend the rest of our Australian dollars and then some.  We got back onboard a little damp and went for lunch.  I had goulash, so I had a salad for dinner with chicken.  I felt like I was home.  There was no show last night because we were in town until 1 am.  They showed the movie, “Muriel’s Wedding”, a dark Australian comedy.  All I can say is that it was different.  You will have to excuse me if I repeat a quote of the day.  I’ve got them all mixed up.  There is one on our bed each night with our chocolate.  I also forgot to mention that clocks went back an hour last night.
