Day 78–Thurs., Mar. 24, 2011–Dubai, UAE

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates on the Persian Gulf.  It is the most populous and second largest after Abu Dhabi.  Oil reserves in Dubai are less tan one-twentieth those of Abu Dhabi , and oil income represents only 6% of their gross domestic product.

We had an excellent tour that Ann arranged today.  Our guide was a Muslim from South Africa.  We had some photo stops and some visits.  In Modern Dubai we saw Burj Khalifa (1), Dubai Mall, Ski Dubai(4), Palm Island, Atlantis Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah, and a view of Burj al Arab (5).  In Old Dubai we saw Jumeirah Mosque (2), the Palace (2), and Dubai Museum (7).  We took an Abra boat (6) to cross Dubai Creek and went in the Spice Souq and Gold Souq.  We had lunch at the Basta Art Café.  I got a beautiful necklace in the Gold Souq.

We were able to have dinner at our regular table but at the 8:00 seating.  There was a movie after dinner, 127 Hours, but we were exhausted.
