Saturday, April 21, 2012 — Southampton to London to Munich

We had a wake-up call in for 4:40 am but we were already awake.  We had breakfast in the Horizon Court and left the ship at 6:15 am.  We got our luggage and then went through customs, got on the bus and were leaving the port by 6:50 am.  We took the M3 to the M25 on our way to Heathrow, Terminal 1 and arrived about 8:10 am.  There were no traffic jams.  We saw lots of farm land, some houses, horses, cattle and sheep.  There was a little rain when we got off the bus.  We checked in with Lufthansa and were through security by 9 am.  There is a central waiting area with shops and restaurants.  Your gate is posted from 30 to 60 minutes before departure.  The gates are a 10 to 20 minute walk from the area.  Luckily we didn’t have far to go.  We were delayed a little bit but arrived in Munich on time.

Munich Airport is very large and we had a long walk to get to passport control.  Passports stamped, we went to get the luggage.  We were looking on the wrong carousel for our luggage which was at the other end on # 16.  When we got there it was very easy to spot.  We walked through “Nothing to Declare” and there were Christine and Willy waiting for us!  We were all happy to see each other. We ended up at the Hofbräuhaus IMG_0507for dinner.  I ordered the specialty of the house, the pig knuckle.  It wasn’t as bad as it sounds or looks.

It came with a huge dumpling that was spongy.  We walked back to the car and Willy drove us to the hotel.  They gave us some lovely candy from Salzburg.  It was a great day!

Our hotel was typically European but it was a little bigger than our cabin on the ship.
