Day 7, Fri., Jan. 11, 2013 ~ Manta, Ecuador

Manta, Ecuador

This is Manta as we bid farewell.  There was a shuttle to take us to the Manicentro Shopping Center not to far from the pier.  We didn’t take a tour so we went shopping.  Ecuador uses the US Dollar for their currency.  It was neat going through the stores and not having to convert currency.  There was a drug store, lots of tables set up by locals and a supermarket.  We spent most of our time in the supermarket.

The thing that still is amazing to us is the eggs on the shelf with the groceries, not refrigerated.

Manta is just south of the equator and we were very lucky that it was cloudy today.  It was around 82 degrees.

As you can see from the above information, we are not even 1 degree south of the equator.  We received a certificate for crossing the equator.  The other day we received one for going through the Panama Canal.  I started my quilling today for the NAQG convention and I finished another book!

Our entertainment tonight was Alwyn Wright playing her violin.  What a talent she has, her fingers fly over the strings.

We’ve heard about the problem with everyone getting the flu.  Please be aware of others and stay healthy.  Here on the ship they are always squirting our hands with sanitizer and asking us to always wash our hands.  Hopefully, no one came aboard sick.
