Day 74, Wed., March 20, 2013 – Porto Malai, Langkawi, Malaysia

This is a new port for us and we booked a tour that met at 8:15 am.  This was a morning we could have slept in as neither one of us slept soundly.

Our tour was called “Craft Complex and Underwater World”, 5 1/2 hours for $59.95 each.  The description said, “The Craft Cultural Complex is a major attraction dedicated solely to showcasing Malaysian handicrafts.  An exclusive assortment of craftwork items ranges from forest-based products, batik fabrics, ceramics, metal artifacts to beautiful art objects, wood products, baskets, rattan-based products and costume jewelry.  We stopped at Eagle Square, where a monumental sculpture faces the seafront of Kuah,  Proceed to the Underwater World—a 32,700-square-foot facility with more than 5,000 examples of colorful marine life and tropical fish in 100 specially designed tanks.  The Sub-Antarctic Ecosystem display includes a spectacular “penguinarium” to view penguins at work and play”.

It was a very busy day.  The craft complex has shopping areas located in all areas.  It was very interesting.  I bought a picture so I could finally try my hand at batik.  It took about 45 minutes to get there, but was worth it.  A museum was among the crafts.

When we left the crafts, we went to Eagle Park.

We then went to Underwater World.  I love to watch the penguins.  This was the first time we saw Rock Hoppers.  They look like they have a mustache.  The penguins in the picture on the left were having a bit of an altercation.  Some of the fish were so pretty.

The gift shops were all throughout the Aquarium, but did not sell souvenirs dealing with the aquarium.  They sold duty-free goods.  One of them even sold bras!

After a quick lunch we went to the Queen’s Lounge for a Malay Kompang Dance Show.  As usual, it was wonderful.

Our entertainment tonight was a variety show with Kenny Smiles and Clare Langan.  As I said, it was a very busy day!

Clocks get set back one hour tonight.
