Friday, May 3, 2013 — NAQGCON 2013

Breakfast was included and served from 6:30 to 10:30 am.  I guess it was around 7 when I got there as the first class was set for 8 am.

8  -9:30 am  I was in Naomi’s Black & White Illusion class.  It was quilling white strips on black paper and when you look at it from different angles, it gives a different look.

9:30 – 11 am   This was Shelly’s Duck Tape Beads class.  We rolled long triangles of duck tape around a cotton swab to make beads and then made a bookmark.  We also fringed a strip of duck tape and put it around a pen.

11:00 am – 12:30 pm found me in Sherry’s Mystery Miniature class.  This year in honor of Sweet Treats we made a mini s’more.  Would you believe those are legs from a frog punch that we used for hands?  Everything is paper.

We had lunch from 12:30 – 2:00 pm in the ballroom.  They had cold cuts, chips and cookies.

2:00 – 3:30 pm Naomi did another class on Iris Photo Folding.  We used six identical photos for the folding.  The photo was taken Jan. 28, 2013 in Moorea, French Polynesia while on our cruise.

3:30 – 5:00 pm was Quilled Flower Soup with Molly Smith.  Molly has written books on quilling.  She had a little bit of everything for us, hence the term ‘soup’.  We didn’t actually make anything but got lots of ideas and freebies.

It was a long day and I hadn’t finished my sandwich at lunch time, so I ate the rest of it for dinner.  Mary had showed me a pen she made for her mom out of quilling bits and I started making my own bits so she could make me a pen.  She also donated a few for our raffle tomorrow.  Her website is

After dinner everyone brought their entries to the Ballroom to be set up for the competition and also set up personal displays.  Some of us went to the hospitality room to learn some more.  The other quilling classes today were:  Quilting, Stained Glass Look, Cone Tree, Greenery, and Hoosier Iris Folding.
